We love partnering with community members who have court, school, or employer-mandated service hours to complete. To increase the chances that we will be able to provide you with service hours, we ask the following of you:
Give Yourself Plenty of Time!
We cannot accommodate short-notice or walk-in requests. At most, we can provide roughly 4 hours of service per week. Before reaching out, please calculate whether you have given yourself a realistic timeline.
If you have required hours, you can be placed on our on-call list, but hours are not guaranteed.
Things to know before reaching out:
- Bellingham Food Bank does not offer any weekend volunteer opportunities.
- Walk-in opportunities are not available. Volunteers must be scheduled in advance, no exceptions.
- Volunteers need to be available for the entirety of a shift. Shift times and lengths vary, but no shift begins after 1:45 pm.
- All Bellingham Food Bank volunteer positions require some amount of standing, bending, lifting, twisting, and working independently.
- Volunteers with our home delivery program must be at least 18 years old. Volunteers with all other programs must be at least 16 years old.
- We LOVE it when our volunteers can speak other languages, especially Spanish, Mixteco, Russian, and/or Ukrainian.
- There are no holiday service opportunities beyond our normal programming. This includes Christmas & Thanksgiving.
- If you are interested in setting up a volunteer work party as part of a workplace or school initiative, please email melanied@bellinghamfoodbank.org
If you’ve read through the above constraints and would like to be placed on our on-call list, e-mail Melanie Danner at melanied@bellinghamfoodbank.org. Include your deadline, number of service hours to complete, and availability Monday-Friday.
