What:
We purchase pallets of bulk dry goods such as masa, pasta, rice, and beans. Groups break down the 50-pound bags into 2-pound bags that we give out to families, households, and individuals who use our services.
When:
We schedule work parties on an ad hoc basis, depending on staff availability. Work parties run Monday-Friday, generally starting no earlier than 10:00-ish, and ending no later than 3:00-ish. We ask groups to commit to 2 hours of work. We do not have opportunities available on the weekends or in the late afternoon or evening.
How:
Individuals must be able to operate a metal or plastic scoop and use it to scoop dry goods from bulk bags into smaller plastic bags. Ideally, there should be one person per group who can lift the 50-pound bags. Groups can expect to work in a warehouse environment and need to be able to stand on a concrete floor for two hours.
Group Criteria:
We can host groups as small as 4 people, and as large as 16. Under rare circumstances, we are able to host larger groups. We are open to all ages, although younger kids need plenty of adult accompaniment—the younger the kids, the more adults are needed.
